MealPing ("this app") checks Korean school lunch menus for the allergen numbers, ingredients to avoid and favorite dishes you set for your child, and notifies you. This app has no sign-up or login, and your child's information is stored only on your device. This policy explains what information is stored where and what is sent to whom.

1. Information this app collects or sends

1a. Directly identifying information

This app does not collect names, phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses or any other information that directly identifies a person. There are no accounts, so no user account or profile is created on any server.

1b. Information stored only on your device

The following is stored only on your device (Hive, SharedPreferences and the home-screen widget storage) and is never sent to this app's server:

  • Child profiles: the nickname you type, the chosen avatar, school, meals to be notified about, and which profile is the main one
  • Meal conditions: allergen numbers (NEIS 1–19), ingredients to avoid, favorite dishes, and keywords you type yourself
  • App settings: alert time and types, theme, app language, notification subscription record
  • Recently checked menus and the match history (History tab), and what the home-screen widget shows

Allergy information is health-related, so the rule is that it does not leave your device. The exception is the notification topic subscription described under "Push notifications" in 1c, which uses the school code and condition numbers.

1c. Information sent to this app's server and third parties

This app's server (mealalert.reactiveworks.dev)

  • School search text and the selected school code, to find schools and fetch that school's menu.
  • The server stores only the list of school codes to send alerts for, a send log used to avoid duplicate alerts (kept 3 days), and a cache of the menus published by the education office. None of this contains a value that identifies a user or device.
  • Server access logs (IP address, time, requested address) are kept for 7 days for troubleshooting and abuse prevention, then deleted.

Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications)

  • To receive alerts, each device gets an FCM token, and this app subscribes the device to notification topics named by "school code + alert time + meal + language + condition number" — for example, the 7 p.m. lunch topic for allergen 5 (soybean) at a given school.
  • Google can therefore see which school and condition-number topics a device has subscribed to. Child nicknames and keywords you type are never put in topic names, and no alerts are sent for typed keywords.

Google Analytics for Firebase (usage statistics)

  • Usage events such as screen views and app start/close, the app instance ID, device model, OS version and country are collected to improve the app. Child information and meal conditions are not included in events.

Google AdMob (advertising)

  • To show ads, the advertising ID (Android Advertising ID / iOS IDFA), IP address, device information (model, OS, language) and ad impression/click data may be sent to Google.
  • On iOS, the IDFA is used only if you allow it in the App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, non-personalized ads are shown.

App updates, reviews and sharing

  • Google Play in-app updates and in-app reviews, and the App Store version check, are handled by each store; this app sends them no personal information.
  • "Share" only opens your phone's share sheet; the content goes only to the app you pick. Whether to include the child's name is chosen on the share screen and is off by default.

2. App permissions

  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, iOS notification permission): to show meal alerts. You can still view menus in the app if you decline.
  • Run after boot (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): to refresh the home-screen widget after the phone restarts.
  • Internet (INTERNET): to fetch menus and receive alerts.
  • iOS App Tracking Transparency: see AdMob above.

This app does not request camera, microphone, contacts, location or photo/storage permissions.

3. Retention

  • On-device information: kept until you delete the app or run Settings → "Erase all data".
  • This app's server: school code list while alerts are being sent, send log 3 days, access logs 7 days; the menu cache is public information and is replaced when refreshed.
  • Third-party services: according to each service's retention policy.

4. Sharing with third parties

Apart from Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging, Google Analytics for Firebase, AdMob) and the app stores listed in 1c, this app does not share or sell personal information to any third party.

5. Your rights

  • Settings → "Erase all data": deletes the child profiles, conditions and settings on the device and unsubscribes from all notification topics. Topics that could not be unsubscribed because you were offline are retried when you are back online.
  • You can edit or delete profiles at any time in Settings → Profiles.
  • You can turn alerts off in Settings → Alert settings or in your phone's system settings.
  • To reset the advertising ID or turn off personalized ads: Android Settings → Google → Ads; iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • Deleting the app deletes the on-device information. If you use your phone's backup feature, it may be included in the backup.

6. Children's privacy

This app is used by parents and students, but it does not collect information that identifies children under the age of 14 (or under 13). The only child information is the nickname and conditions a guardian enters on the device, and it is not sent off the device. Ads are served by Google AdMob with general-audience settings.
